Standard of care is the currently accepted, best-available treatment for a specific condition. When a trial mentions standard of care, it means the treatment that most doctors would prescribe right now. New treatments are often tested against the standard of care to see if they work better.

Why It Matters

In many trials, the control group receives the standard of care — meaning you will still get proven treatment even if you are not in the experimental group. No legitimate trial will deny you necessary treatment.
