Remission — What It Means in Clinical Trials
Plain English Definition
Remission means the signs and symptoms of your disease have partially or completely disappeared. Complete remission means no detectable disease remains. Partial remission means the disease has shrunk significantly but is still detectable. Remission does not always mean cured — the disease can come back.
Why It Matters
Remission is the goal of many cancer treatments. If a trial aims for remission, ask what type (complete or partial) and how long previous patients have stayed in remission.
Example
A trial result might report: "42% of participants achieved complete remission after 6 months of treatment."
