Plain English Definition
Pharmacokinetics (PK) is the study of how your body processes a drug — how it is absorbed, distributed, broken down, and eliminated. PK studies measure how much drug is in your blood at different times. This information helps researchers determine the right dose and how often you need to take it.
Why It Matters
If a trial includes PK measurements, you may need to give extra blood samples at specific times (for example, before and at 1, 2, 4, and 8 hours after taking the drug). These visits can be longer than usual.
Example
A listing might say: "PK blood samples will be collected at pre-dose, 0.5h, 1h, 2h, 4h, 8h, and 24h after the first dose."
